 DATA MIGRATION WITH VICOM SYSTEMS

 

Vicom Systems provides data migration solutions that support migrations ranging from simple addition of new storage into a small SAN to complex SAN migrations involving large-scale storage systems and tens or over one thousand of servers.

Vicom’s fabric-based appliances and migration software offer significant advantages over conventional methods by simplifying an inherently complex task, using built-in error-checking to eliminate mistake-prone tasks, and accelerating the migration through appliance-powered data movement. Simple to introduce and remove from the network, all migration management is performed via the Vicom appliance, eliminating need for host-based software and drivers. Because the data migration is managed from the Fibre Channel fabric and not host or storage “endpoints”, data migration management is dramatically simplified.

Vicom data migration can be performed online or offline. When used for online migrations, the Vicom appliance can be inserted into the fabric and into the I/O data flow without taking host systems offline. Using a dedicated hardware-based mirroring technique, the Vicom appliance will enable the source (old) storage to continue its services while the appliance transparently migrates data from the source storage to the (new) destination storage. Thus, should any problems occur, system operation be switched immediately back to the source storage, reducing risk in the migration process.

Alternatively, Vicom appliances can be used offline to migrate data at maximum speed, which for most configurations ranges between 1-1.5 terabytes per hour. Used offline, Vicom appliances will move data independent of any host system operation, and between any number of host and storage systems. Vicom refers to this data migration capability as “any-to-any.”
