Vicom data migration is provided by Piper DME, and an integrated, portable migration appliance sized to move large, multi-terabyte data stores quickly and efficiently.
Piper DME is powered by multiple Vicom engines, which drive block-level data storage migration between source and target volumes within any heterogeneous storage environment including Fibre Channel, SCSI, and SSA. Piper DME is easily inserted into and removed from the data path for online migration projects without requiring downtime.
Online migrations enable the customer to continue reading and writing to the source storage while also performing data migration. Once complete, host systems can immediately access the new storage. Should any problems occur, system operation can be switched back to the source storage.

Alternatively, Vicom appliances can be used offline to migrate data at maximum speed. Used offline, Vicom appliances will move data independent of host system operation and between any number of host and storage systems.

Vicom provides three versions of the Piper DME tool:

• Piper DME capable of performing 99 percent of all open system migrations.
  Eight Vicom Model P engines are used to migrate 1 Terabyte data per hour.

• Piper DME Lite - 4x will perform 90 percent of all open system migrations.
  Four Model P engines are used to provide 0.5 Terabyte of migrated data per hour.

• Piper DME Lite - 2x is capable of covering 80 percent of all open system migrations.
  Two Model P engines are used to provide 0.25 Terabyte of migrated data per hour.
